Across the board this has become one of my all time favorite recordings. I should also mention that my Amazon marketplace seller shipped this asap, and the item was just as described. For the opportunity to own the double disc set of the orginal cast and recording the price is a bargain.
After seeing the recent production with Rueben Studdard,Frenchie Davis, Trenyce Cobbins & Patrice Covington I had a much greater appreciation, and renewed interest. (I have a newfound appreciation for Nell Carter as well.Holy Smokes could that diva sing). While I was familiar with Fat's Waller, I had not known much about "Ain't Misbehavin'".
The entire CD is not only timeless, but quite joy to listen to. Don't hesitate to invest in this addictive CD. The new cast did a great job when visiting our area so I searched for the CD.
Of course once I heard the original cast I was instantly hooked.
I saw the show in Boston in the 80's with the original Broadway cast. I've been searching for years. After you listen to this cd the songs will stay with you. This Show is on DVD which is hard to find. I just bought the DVD on Ebay.
I wish they would release it on video I would love nothing more than to see it again. I would love to see it get released on DVD. I have been a big fan of this musical for years and nothing beats the original broadway cast- They are amazing. I had taped it but the tape was lost in a fire at my friend's apartment. Maybe someday, for now this CD will have to do. Someone said it was a shame it was never captured on video, but it was. It was broadcast on NBC in the 80's and it was incredible.
Some songs are soulful, like "Black and Blue", but most are just plain fun and funny, like "Your feets too big". Reordered the CD so I could put it on my ipod. This should be brought back to Broadway now. Saw the Broadway Revue many years ago on Broadway. Always loved the moving music.
What makes it outstanding are the arrangements. The cast is stellar, and it's very obvious that each song is telling its own story. Very few revue shows are as satisfying as this one. I'm obsessed with the finale right now; can't get enough of it.
